Privacy policy

Who we are

ContractorMaths.co.uk is operated as a sole-trader publication based in the UK (the “data controller” for the purposes of UK GDPR). For any privacy enquiry, email hello@contractormaths.co.uk.

What data we collect

On this site itself, the answer is: very little.

• Privacy-preserving analytics.We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views, top pages, and rough country-level traffic without setting cookies, without fingerprinting individual visitors, and without storing personal data. See Cloudflare's privacy page for their data-handling. We do not use Google Analytics or any cookie-based tracking.
• Calculator inputs stay in your browser. Numbers you type into a calculator are processed by JavaScript on your device. They are not sent to us. They may appear in the URL query string (so you can share or bookmark a calculation), that is a normal browser feature, not a server-side store.
• Email correspondence. If you email hello@contractormaths.co.uk or use the contact form, your message and email address land in our inbox so we can reply. The form posts to a server endpoint that immediately forwards the message to email, we don't store form submissions in any database. We delete or archive correspondence after it stops being useful (typically within 12 months).
• Server access logs.Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps short-lived request logs (IP address, user-agent, URL) for up to 30 days for security and debugging. We don't link these to any other data and don't use them for analytics.

Affiliate links and partner sites

ContractorMaths includes affiliate links to UK accountants, umbrella companies, mortgage brokers, and pension providers. These are clearly labelled with a “Partner link · paid recommendation” tag.

When you click an affiliate link, you leave ContractorMaths and arrive at a partner website (or an affiliate network like Awin that immediately redirects you). The partner's own privacy policy applies to anything that happens on their site, including any cookies they set. We don't share any data with partners beyond the click itself.

Legal basis for processing

• Analytics: legitimate interest (operating a website without tracking visitors individually). No cookies are set, so no consent banner is needed under PECR.
• Email correspondence: legitimate interest (responding to a message you sent us).
• Server logs: legitimate interest (security and debugging).

Third parties who process data on our behalf

• Vercel: hosting and edge delivery
• Cloudflare: privacy-preserving Web Analytics
• Hostinger: domain and email hosting for hello@contractormaths.co.uk

All three are reputable providers with their own UK GDPR-compliant data-handling. Some processing may happen on servers outside the UK; UK GDPR adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses cover those transfers.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to:

• Ask what data we hold about you (subject access).
• Ask us to correct any inaccurate data.
• Ask us to delete data we hold about you (right to erasure).
• Object to processing.
• Complain to the Information Commissioner (ico.org.uk).
